An Audience With Christopher Eccleston

We’re delighted to start our March 2022 season with our very special guest Christopher Eccleston.

In conversation with renowned film critic Anna Smith, Eccleston will discuss his work and influences. This will be followed by a screening of a film specially selected by Eccleston for its importance to him: Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, with an audience Q&A session after the film.

Eccleston made his stage debut at Bristol Old Vic in a 1988 production of A Streetcar Named Desire. Since then his award-winning career has spanned film (Shallow Grave, Elizabeth, 28 Days Later, Legend, Flesh and Blood), TV (Our Friends In The North, The Second Coming, Doctor Who, The Leftovers, Accused, Come Home, The A Word) and stage (Macbeth, Hamlet, A Doll’s House).

Anna Smith

Anna Smith is a broadcaster and one of the UK’s top film critics.

She is the former President of the UK Critics’ Circle, the host of the Girls On Film podcast and a regular film critic for BBC News, Sky News, BBC Radio, Deadline Hollywood, Time Out, Metro, The Guardian, Sight & Sound, Empire and more.

She has spent over a decade interviewing major actors and directors on stage, on screen and in print.






About The Film

1960 | PG | 89 mins

Saturday Night and Sunday Morning stars Albert Finney as Arthur Seaton, a reckless young machinist in 1960s Nottingham who is determined to avoid a life of domestic drudgery. Whilst conducting affairs with two women, Arthur is reminded that all actions have consequences, and that his aspirations for a carefree life might not be as simple as he expects.

More Information

• There is street parking available in Clifton Village - there is no parking available onsite at the Redgrave Theatre.

• Clifton village is on several bus routes from the city centre. The nearest train station is Clifton Down station.

• Wherever possible, we encourage walking or using public transport to travel to our events.

• On-street parking is free after 5pm Monday to Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday. Disabled Badge Holders may park their vehicles on the double yellow lines in front of the Theatre.

• The main access to the auditorium is via two staircases, however ground level access to the front of the auditorium is available via the side door to the left of the building. 

• Access to Rows A & B are the only rows that don't require any steps. Access to the Theatre foyer also requires traversing a single step - a portable ramp is available. Wheelchair users are accommodated in two designated spaces per performance, one on each side of the front row, adjacent to ramped emergency exits. Additional seating is provided next to these spaces for a companion. 

• Unfortunately the Theatre does not have a disabled toilet or an Induction Loop.  

• Customers who require particular seating arrangements in order to accommodate difficulties they may have in attending performances should contact the Box Office in advance.  



• We cannot guarantee access before the stated doors time on your ticket, so advise you arrive as close to this time as possible.
