THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE at Arnos Vale Cemetery

  • Arnos Vale Cemetery England, BS4 3EA United Kingdom (map)
Elegant and deeply-felt [...] it’s alternately a gut-wrenching portrait of childhood in a time of war and a skin-crawling, evocative nightmare
— Bloody Disgusting

Join us in Arnos Vale Cemetery, Bristol’s very own necropolis, for two nights of screenings dedicated to two of the great directors of dark fantasy, Guillermo Del Toro and Henry Selick! Enter this fascinating space after hours, get a drink from our pop-up bar, then make your way to the beautiful Anglican Chapel to take your seat, and enjoy the show in this unique venue.

Next on Friday is Del Toro’s chilling but poignant horror film The Devil’s Backbone, which turns 20 this year.

About The Film

2001 | 15 | 103 mins

During the final year of the Spanish Civil War, a young boy called Carlos is sent to live in a remote orphanage. The orphanage is full of rumours – hidden gold, a mysterious disappearance, a still-ticking bomb – and as Carlos explores the grounds, he realises that there is a supernatural presence that suggests a terrible secret has yet to be uncovered.
