Spirit of Cinema: DIRTY DANCING at Clifton Observatory (Late Screening)

  • Clifton Observatory Observatory Rd England, BS8 3LT United Kingdom (map)
The dancing here brings out the sensual dreaminess of the songs. ‘Dirty Dancing’ - what a great title! - is such a bubbleheaded, retro vision of growing up in the sixties (or any other time) that you go out of the theatre giggling happily
— Pauline Kael (New Yorker)

DOORS: 20:15 | FILM STARTS: 20:30

After our debut events in October, we are returning to Clifton Observatory for our second Spirit of Cinema Screenings. This series sees us pair classic films with two delicious gin and tonics from indie suppliers. This February we welcome local legends - and the Festival’s gin partner - 6 O’Clock Gin!

6 O’Clock Gin is a family-run, craft gin brand just north of Bristol with over 30 years’ experience in the spirits industry. They patiently distil strikingly smooth artisan gins in small batches, using traditional skills and only the best natural ingredients. Proudly British, they're clear about our values; dedicated to reducing their carbon footprint whilst maintaining product quality, their solar powered gin still is the heart of the business and ensures the delicious gin is made with sustainability in mind.

Given that our first Spirit Of Cinema screening of 2022 is very close to Valentine’s Day, we’ll be screening the classic 80s romance Dirty Dancing. Your ticket includes two premium Gin & Tonics, each made with a different 6 O’Clock gin.

Please note that there are two showings – this is the later showing. This event is strictly for over-18s only

About The Film

Frances “Baby” Houseman travels to an upscale holiday resort with her family. She quickly becomes infatuated with the resort’s rebellious dance instructor, Johnny. As the two start to fall in love, will they be able to overcome the disapproval of Baby’s family, and the prejudices against Johnny?

About the Location

Established in 1766, Clifton Observatory is an iconic landmark and an integral part of the Bristol landscape. The Observatory has had a long and varied history, but one thing has remained consistent over the centuries: the spectacular and unforgettable views of Bristol, Avon Gorge, and the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

In 2015, the Observatory underwent a major restoration. Over the past few years. Today, it’s home to the 360 café, a museum featuring a rare Victorian-era Camera Obscura, and the atmospheric and mythical Giant’s Cave.
