About Samir Savant
Samir is Chief Executive of St George’s, a world-class, independent music and spoken word venue in the heart of Bristol. Since he took the role in September 2021, St George’s has launched Bristol’s Festival of Voice (which features mass participation singing events such as ‘Sing for the King’ and ‘Sing for Happiness’) and hosted the first ever Bristol BBC Prom.
Samir has over 20 years’ experience in the arts and is a recognised writer and public speaker on topics ranging from the lack of diversity in the arts to the role of trustees in fundraising. He was most recently Festival Director of the London Handel Festival, which included a fully staged opera at the Royal Opera House and the internationally renowned Handel Singing Competition. From 2015 to 2018, he chaired the Chartered Institute of Fundraising’s Cultural Sector Network’s national conference, the largest event of its type in Europe for arts and heritage fundraisers.
Outside of work, he is an active choral and solo singer and is a member of the Fitzhardinge Consort. He is a trustee of the Harrison Parrott Foundation, which seeks to redress the inequalities of opportunity in the classical music sector.
About TEDxBRISTOL
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
TEDxBRISTOL was last hosted on 18th November 2023. More information about the 2024 event will be available shortly.

There is on-street parking directly outside the venue and on adjacent roads. Charges may apply so please check signage. There are also nearby car parks located on Trenchard Street and Jacob Wells Road.
The 1532 Performing Arts Centre is an accessible venue. We offer limited access parking via a side vehicle gate on Elton Road, just up the road from the main entrance. Please contact us on 1532@bgs.bristol.sch.uk if you require accessible access.
The Elton Road bus stop is served by route 72. The Queens Road bus stop is served by routes 1, 2, 2a, 3, 4, 8 and U2.
Wherever possible, we encourage walking the use of public transport when travelling to our events.
