A vision that is bold, brassy, hugely inventive and accessible and, in a strange way, just right […] Shakespeare’s name fills up the title, but this is clearly Luhrmann’s vision and it’s a genuinely inventive one

BAR DOORS: 17:15 | SCREENING SPACE DOORS: 18:00 | FILM STARTS 18:15

This October we look forward to welcoming you to one of Bristol newest venues – the stunning Mount Without! Formerly a church dating from the 15th Century, this recently restored creative space on St. Michael’s Hill boasts a rich history. Enjoy a drink in the Crypt, before watching films in the Grade-II listed nave beneath a stunning stained-glass window.

Our debut event here will be Baz Luhrmann’s contemporary take on Romeo + Juliet, a film with an appropriately fitting aesthetic for this wonderful space. Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes shine as the star-crossed lovers, in this high-octane adaptation that transfers the warring families to the Californian city of Verona Beach.

PLEASE NOTE: there are two screenings; this is the earlier screening at 17:15. The later screening at 20:00 can be booked here.

About The Film

1996 | 12A | 120 mins

In 1990s Verona Beach, chief of police Captain Prince struggles to stop the bad blood between the Montague and Capulet families for spilling over into gang warfare. Against the backdrop of the feud, though, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet begin a clandestine romance…

About The Location

There has been a church on this site for over 900 years, with the original structure dating back to the Norman era; the unusual name comes from an era when it was outside the city’s walls. After major renovation works in the late 18th Century, and again after damage from the Bristol Blitz, the church finally closed its doors and was deconsecrated in 1999. The building was the victim of an arson attack in 2016, but after years of restoration work it has now reopened as one of Bristol’s most unique and characterful new event spaces.
