THE LOST WORLD: Centenary Screening w/ Live Music at St Mary Redcliffe

  • St Mary Redcliffe Redcliffe Way, Redcliffe Bristol, BS1 6RA United Kingdom (map)
The first film version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s splendid novel of high adventure, and still the most-rewarding. [...] The restored 93-minute version is highly recommended as an example of state-of-the-art special effects circa 1925
— Kim Newman (Empire)

DOORS: 18:30 | FILM STARTS 19:00

We’re returning to St Mary Redcliffe in February for a special centenary screening of The Lost World. This adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s beloved novel was one of the first films to use stop-motion animation (the art team would later replicate the effects for King Kong), and had a monumental impact on genre filmmaking as far forward as Jurassic Park.

This remarkable film will be accompanied by a live, entirely improvised organ recital by the award-winning composer Dr. David Bednall, blending silent cinema with live music to create a unique performance that promises to add another dimension to the experience.

100 years on from its original release, The Lost World is roaring back onto the big screen for this one-off showing of the restored cut, including one of the first ever movie cameos…
