Silent Screams in St Mary Redcliffe

Our Silent Screams event at St Mary Redcliffe celebrated the origins of horror cinema.

From George Méliès’ groundbreaking trick cinema shorts in the 1890s - arguably the first horror films ever made - to the original Frankenstein adaptation, from 1920s Expressionism to Buster Keaton’s affectionate haunted house send-up - it was an evening celebrating some of the pioneers of the genre, presenting seldom-screened gems from cinematic history.

These remarkable films were accompanied by a live, entirely improvised organ recital by the award-winning composer Dr. David Bednall. It’s always a pleasure to hear David work his own magic to add an incredible new dimension to silent cinema, and it was the first time we have worked with him on an ‘anthology performance!

Thanks to all who attended, and to our partners Canned Wine Company, 6 O Clock Gin, Bar Buoy and Vino Zero.
