Venue Spotlight: Clifton Observatory

Boasting unparalleled views across the city, Clifton Observatory is next in our venue spotlight seres.

Established in 1766, Clifton Observatory is an iconic landmark and an integral part of the Bristol landscape. The Observatory has had a long and varied history, but one thing has remained consistent over the centuries: the spectacular and unforgettable views of Bristol, Avon Gorge, and the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

In 2015, the Observatory underwent a major restoration. Today, it’s home to the 360 café, a museum featuring a rare Victorian-era Camera Obscura, and the atmospheric and mythical Giant’s Cave. Discover films screened in the intimate and cost William Weston room - perfect for discovering, or re-discovering classic films in a stunning setting.

This April we’re screening two of the great boxing films, aptly paired with drinks that will pack a punch! Our first screening is Sylvester Stallone’s career-launching bildungsroman Rocky, which won three Oscars including Best Picture. It’s a true pop culture cornerstone with a franchise to boot, but you can’t beat the original champion! Our second screening is the Oscar-winning biopic Raging Bull. Martin Scorsese’s fourth collaboration with Robert DeNiro is often cited as a career high for both men, and it’s routinely named as one of the greatest films of all time.

For a more family-friendly option, join us earlier in the day for a screening of Wreck-It Ralph. John C. Reilly heads an ensemble cast in this exhilaratingly original misadventure through a video game arcade’s hidden world - with plenty of clever references for older viewers and gaming veterans, it’s a dazzling mix of retro and modern.
