New for Autumn 2022 is our new series celebrating the best of musical cinema, based in Bristol Improv Theatre. Enjoy a themed cocktail in this fantastic venue’s bar, then make your way through to the theatre for the show. Whether you’re content tapping your toes along, or belting out every line, sit back and enjoy some of the greatest music-inspired movies to grace the silver screen.
This November we’re celebrating the 20th anniversary of one of the great stage-to-screen musical adaptations, Chicago. This multiple Oscar-winning hit saw all three of its female leads – Renée Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Queen Latifah – nominated, with Zeta-Jones taking home Best Supporting Actress. Slick your hair and wear your buckle shoes (and all that jazz), and step into the Improv Theatre’s subterranean speakeasy for a night to remember…!
There will be a short interval during this film
About The Film
2002 | 12A | 112 mins
In 1920s Chicago, two women are awaiting trial: nightclub performer Velma and wannabe star Roxie. They both become clients of notorious lawyer Billy Flynn, creating a media circus that pits the two women against each other in a battle for infamy.
About The Location
The Bristol Improv Theatre is the UK’s first full-time dedicated improv theatre, hosting troupes from all over the UK and overseas, bringing world-class improv to Bristol. Through crowdfunding and the efforts of over 40 volunteers, the founders transformed this former-Victorian-schoolhouse-turned-working-mens-club-cum-live-music-venue into a purpose-built theatre space, with licensed bar, rehearsal rooms and office.
Bristol Improv Theatre is our new home for screenings of classic musical films, as well as our “mini-fests” paying homage to great directors and actors.
