The historic Clifton Observatory is home to our family-friendly matinee screenings of some of the highlights of modern animation. Join us in this intimate setting overlooking the Avon Gorge and Clifton Suspension Bridge, and (weather permitting) enjoy the stunning views from the rooftop terrace before the film begins.
As we bid farewell to the summer, we’re adding a dose of colour and creativity to our September programming with the visually stunning Encanto, which won Best Animated Feature at this year’s Oscars. Come for the beautiful animation, stay for Lin-Manuel Miranda’s incredibly catchy songs and a surprisingly moving narrative that defies some of the conventions of the Disney formula.
About The Film
2021 | U | 109 mins
The Madrigal family help their rural community using their various magical abilities, a gift handed down to all family members – everyone, that is, but Mirabel, who has no abilities of her own. However, when the Madrigals begin to lose their magic, it is Mirabel who embarks on a quest to uncover the mystery behind this phenomenon, and save her family.
About The Location
Established in 1766, Clifton Observatory is an iconic landmark and an integral part of the Bristol landscape. The Observatory has had a long and varied history, but one thing has remained consistent over the centuries: the spectacular and unforgettable views of Bristol, Avon Gorge, and the Clifton Suspension Bridge.
In 2015, the Observatory underwent a major restoration. Over the past few years. Today, it’s home to the 360 café, a museum featuring a rare Victorian-era Camera Obscura, and the atmospheric and mythical Giant’s Cave.
